The present article explores the role and perception of women in medicine in the Czech lands at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, examining the professional training required for nurses and female doctors, the qualifications demanded, and their subsequent career opportunities, with a particular focus on their acceptance within both professional and general discourse—an acceptance often shaped by prevailing gender prejudices.

The Success of the Demands of Women and Feminists and the Power of Antifeminism in Slovene Territory before the Second World War

The present paper examines the dialectical relationship between the women’s and feminist movements in the Slovene lands during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and in the aftermath of the First World War, as well as the antifeminist responses that emerged in both the media landscape and in structural political measures.

From Slavic Leader to National Ruler: A Modern Discursive Construction of the Early Medieval Rulership of Pribina († 861)

Pribina was a Slavic leader of unknown origin from the 9th century who was expelled by the Moravian prince (dux) Mojmir I. However, his rank in the territory north of the Danube before exile is a matter of an ages-long scholarly debate. This article presents an analysis of historiographic discourse which has resulted in the national scholarly construction of an early medieval, hypothetical Slovak/Nitrian rulership of Pribina.
